To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms that give that event its proper expression.

the sketchbook project is a seriously cool idea, currently housed in the brooklyn art library on north 3rd street in williamsburg. to participate, entrants pay $25 to receive a sketchbook and a category under which their book will be categorized. once their book is completed, it will be among the thousands exhibited, touring the world. for the rest of us, a visit to the shop and a couple hours flipping through various artist’s insights can transport us between countries and minds.

Don’t spend all day setting up a single shot, plan an event with a group of people: hiking, swimming, walking, biking, skiing, whatever you want to shoot. Capture as many images of it as you can and shoot the most unlikely moments including downtime. Spending a day on a shot falls more in the commercial realm.
